[SN JC1516] USED FENDER CUSTOM SHOP / Master Built Series 1957 Stratocaster Relic Fiesta Red By John Cruz [03]
John Cruz joined Fender in 1986. During his early days, which began with mopping floors, he learned the subtle differences in neck shapes across different eras from Harvie Castellum, the master of neck final sanding. In 1993, he was recognized by John Page, one of the founders of the Custom Shop, and became a member of the team.
He was promoted to Master Builder in 2003. The following year, he was entrusted with the sole responsibility of crafting the limited-edition Stevie Ray Vaughan "Number One" Stratocaster, a run of just 100 guitars.
We have received a rare instrument crafted in 2010 by John Cruz, a builder renowned for possessing the highest level of skill and experience in relic finishing!
Based on a 1957 Stratocaster, this guitar features an alder body and a maple neck.
The neck shape is a soft V-shape typical of that era, and it is equipped with 21 vintage-style frets.
The fingerboard features scalloped frets.
The body color is "Fiesta Red."
As this is a relic-style finish, the paint has peeled away to reveal the white undercoat and bare wood in areas such as the elbow cut, and the entire body is covered in scratches and dents that look as if the guitar has been played intensely.
The relic finish has been crafted to a look unique to him, showcasing his exceptional skills within the builder’s workshop.
It is equipped with three original black-bobbin single-coil pickups.
These pickups were crafted by Abigail Ibara, who produced numerous hand-wound pickups over the course of more than 50 years, from her joining the company in 1958 until her retirement in 2013.
This is a guitar that allows you to experience the mature, aged sound of a vintage instrument.
The controls feature a master volume, front pickup tone, and center and rear pickup tone controls, making it easy to play even by today’s standards.
As for the condition, it is very difficult to assess due to the heavy relic finish applied throughout the body, but there are also some scratches that appear to have been added later.
There are signs of repair on the middle pickup, and the soldering at the grommet has been redone.
Additionally, re-soldering is visible around the pot area.
Finished with a rugged, well-worn look that suggests it has been played extensively over the years, this is a truly unique John Cruz guitar!
This is a rare find, so please don’t miss this opportunity!!
