[SN 941132] USED GIBSON CUSTOM / Historic Collection 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue VOS Ice Tea [03]
This model was produced during a period starting in 2013 when the specifications underwent significant revisions. These refinements—including a hide glue neck joint, aniline-dyed mahogany, a tubular truss rod, and long studs—were made to faithfully reproduce the original Les Paul, bringing the instrument closer to the “real thing.”
Although the Historic Collection transitioned to the “True Historic” line in 2015 and production was temporarily discontinued, this 2014 model—which can be considered the culmination of the series—remains highly sought after on the market.
It features a maple top, a mahogany back and sides, and a mahogany neck with the just-right grip characteristic of ’59 models.
It is equipped with the “Custom Backer” pickup, which remains immensely popular to this day, delivering an output that faithfully reproduces picking nuances and volume control. This vintage-like tone is a sound that can only be achieved with the Custom Backer.
There are scattered scratches, dents, and playwear throughout the instrument. Specifically, there is a somewhat large dent on the body top near the elbow area, a buckle mark, and some discoloration along the binding on the horns.
In addition, some hardware shows clouding and rust, and there is some signs of wear, such as age-related fading on the back of the neck and the body back; however, there is no major, noticeable damage.
The frets and nuts have been refretted and replaced, and the controls have been swapped out for vintage-style parts; there is a crack in the front tone knob with signs that it has been glued back together.
Although some parts have been replaced, this is a well-played instrument in “player’s condition.”
At first glance, the grain on the top appears subdued, but depending on the angle, a beautiful wide-flame pattern reveals itself, creating a three-dimensional grain pattern!
