[SN 406830] USED GIBSON / 1974â75 Howard Roberts Custom Wine Red [06]
Howard Roberts left behind numerous legendary performances as a jazz and session guitarist.
In the 1960s, Epiphone released his signature model, and he switched to Gibson in the 1970s.
Including the Custom model weâve just received, there were four different models available at the time, which shows how much effort Gibson was putting into this line back then.
Production of the Custom began in 1973, and based on its serial number, the guitar weâve received was manufactured between 1974 and 1975.
The laminated maple body is 3Πinches thick and 16 inches wide, making it a comfortable size to hold.
The neck is a three-piece maple design, common on many models from the 1970s. The volute on the back of the headstock also evokes the era.
It is equipped with Schaller keystone-style tuners, which bear the âGIBSONâ engraving.
The headstock features luxurious flower inlays, and the position marks have a unique shape.
The soundhole is a slightly smaller oval shape, and the tailpiece is an original style engraved with the words âHoward Roberts.â
A tailpiece similar in style to the Trini LĂłpez model is also fitted here.
The most distinctive feature of this model is its controls.
It features an unusual configuration of one volume and two tone controls for the single pickup mounted at the neck end.
Each tone control has a different effect, allowing the player to fine-tune the sound to their preference.
There are traces indicating that the tuning pegs were once replaced with a different type.
Overall, it shows signs of wear appropriate for its age, such as scratches, dents, and cracks in the finish; however, it has been inspected and fully adjusted by a professional repair technician since its arrival, and it is in excellent playing condition.
The original pickguard is included.
