[SN 70585] USED GIBSON MEMPHIS / Hand-Selected Top 1961 ES-335 Gloss Sixties Cherry [06]

[SN 70585] USED GIBSON MEMPHIS / Hand-Selected Top 1961 ES-335 Gloss Sixties Cherry [06]

A special Historic-spec custom ES-335 produced during the final days of the Memphis factory.

This is one of the "Memphis Historic Series" models crafted at the Gibson Memphis factory, which closed in 2018 to much regret. This series was available for only a very short time following the discontinuation of the Nashville Historic Collection, and it boasts a high level of craftsmanship that could be described as the "Historic Series" dedicated to semi-hollow body guitars.
The elegant grain, which shimmers subtly depending on the angle, is beautiful and exudes a vintage-like sense of luxury distinct from flashiness.

Based on the 1961 ES-335 specifications, it features the dot position marks seen from 1958 through early 1962. It is equipped with Kluson tuners—the double-knob, single-line style known from models dating from the late 1960s onward.
The neck features a slim taper profile that offers excellent playability, allowing you to fully enjoy the light, responsive feel characteristic of early ES-335s.
Meanwhile, the pickguard incorporates the short guard seen on later 1963 models, recreating details unique to this transitional period.
This ā€œdot inlays Ɨ short pickguardā€ combination is known as a specification found only during a very limited period around 1961 and early 1962, making it an irresistible feature even for vintage ES-335 enthusiasts with deep knowledge of the model.
Additionally, starting around 1962, the ES-335 featured new routing near the rear pickup, increasing the cavity volume and resulting in a sound with a more airy quality. This model deliberately incorporates this routing to fully enhance the body resonance.
The model designation on the certificate of authenticity is "HS18CO4NH1."

With the closure of the Memphis factory, this is a rare ES-335 that allows you to fully appreciate the unique character of the ā€œfinal-era Memphis Historicā€ā€”a model that will never be produced again.
The nut has been replaced, and there is some fading of the neck finish, as well as paint damage around the F-hole on the control side.
There are also minor play marks, scuffs, and some discoloration on the parts, showing signs of use.
It has been cleaned and fully adjusted since arrival.
