The flagship model of Japan’s renowned YAMAHA FG/FS series
The “FG/FS9” Electro-Acoustic Model The FG9/FS9 series, handcrafted in Japan, consists of acoustic guitars that offer rich volume, clear tone, and a wide range of expressiveness that responds to the player’s style, making them ideal instruments for singer-songwriters.
Approximately 60 years after the debut of the first-generation FG in 1966, the “FG/FS9” series was announced as Yamaha’s new flagship model/series—and now, the long-awaited electro-acoustic “FG/FS9 X” series has arrived!

The FG9 MX, a dreadnought-style model, is a handmade instrument manufactured in Japan featuring an Adirondack spruce top and African mahogany sides and back.
Its powerful and clear sound perfectly complements a singer-songwriter’s vocals. Furthermore, the Atmosfeel™ pickup system faithfully reproduces that sound via line output on stage.

A unique design incorporating elegant and understated Japanese aesthetics

Powerful projection and clarity
The FG9 and FS9 feature outstanding projection, excellent clarity, and delicate expressiveness, making them ideal for accompanying vocals.

Adirondack Spruce and Tapered Edges
One of the distinctive features of the FG9 and FS9 is the Adirondack spruce top with tapered edges. This design increases structural strength while allowing the body to vibrate more effectively, contributing to both power and subtlety.

Bolt-On Neck Joint
The neck features a new structural design combining bolted and glued sections, which enhances the body’s vibration while improving maintainability. The joint between the neck and body is finished and adjusted with high precision.

Elegant and Understated Japanese Aesthetics
The distinctive position marks on the fingerboard resemble traditional Japanese wood joinery, and the rope-like inlay and purfling designs around the soundhole are rooted in Japanese culture.

A Scientific Approach Fused with Craftsmanship
In designing the FG9, we employed state-of-the-art acoustic measurement and 3D structural analysis processes to gain the deepest possible understanding of how physical structure affects acoustic characteristics, and our skilled Custom Shop builders created numerous prototypes through an iterative process.

Body Shapes & Styles
The FG9 and FS9 come in two body shapes: the FG9 is a Dreadnought style, and the FS9 is a Concert style. The FG9’s large, wide body is ideal for strumming, delivering powerful bass and a sound that carries far. The FS9’s slightly smaller body produces a balanced sound with a sensitive response that highlights delicate, detailed single notes.

Atmosfeel™ Pickup System
The Atmosfeel 3-Way Pickup System reproduces the guitar’s tonal components—which conventional pickups cannot capture—with natural nuance. An under-saddle piezo sensor captures string vibrations; a condenser microphone mounted inside the body captures the resonance of the air within the guitar’s body; and a contact sensor pickup—made of thin, durable piezoelectric synthetic paper affixed to the back of the top—captures the high frequencies generated by the top’s vibrations. By combining these three sounds, the system faithfully reproduces the guitar’s natural acoustic sound in its entirety.Tuning the sound is as simple as adjusting three knobs. Use the Master Volume to fine-tune the tone, and the Mic Blend to add body resonance. The Bass EQ allows you to adjust the peak frequency; whether you need to cut low frequencies for a band setting or want to reinforce the low end for fingerstyle playing, adjusting the center frequency band to suit your specific use case ensures reliable sound shaping.

Included Accessories: Hard case, hex wrench, certificate of authenticity, soundhole cover
