[SN IMJ201771] YAMAHA / FG3 Natural [11]
○ A fusion of 1960s aesthetics and craftsmanship honed over more than 50 years
○Yamaha’s original folk body shape offers excellent playability for players who prefer a compact body. The well-defined, full-bodied sound is ideal for responsive chord strumming and fingerpicking.
○Newly developed scalloped bracing delivers a warm, powerful sound characterized by deep bass and rich harmonics.
○ The top features solid Sitka spruce treated with A.R.E. for a mature sound reminiscent of a well-played instrument.
○ The fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony
○ Includes a lightweight hard case
The original headstock shape of the Yamaha FG features a logo modeled after a tuning fork. The truss rod cover is engraved with "Since 1966," signifying the origins of Yamaha guitars.
The top is made of solid Sitka spruce treated with A.R.E. Despite being brand new, it delivers a rich tone reminiscent of a well-played instrument, combined with a powerful resonance driven by the warm mid-to-low frequencies characteristic of mahogany. This well-balanced sound is ideal for chord strumming or rhythmic fingerstyle playing.
Solid mahogany is used for the sides and back, delivering the warm, rich midrange characteristic of mahogany.
In pursuit of an ideal, warm tone, we have refined the design through a combination of virtual prototyping using the latest acoustic analysis simulation technology and physical prototyping via woodworking. Compared to the scalloped bracing used in the FG/FS#800 series, we have optimized the bracing to match the characteristics of the wood itself and the specific models of the FG and FS series, achieving further expansion of the low-frequency response.
The top is treated with Yamaha’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) process. By precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, this process replicates the natural aging changes that occur in wood over many years after milling within a short period. This enhances sound transmission and vibration efficiency, promoting the extension of mid-to-low frequencies while increasing the attack of high frequencies and accelerating their decay. The A.R.E. treatment produces a well-balanced, mature, and warm sound with minimal harsh overtones, creating a tone reminiscent of a guitar that has been played for many years.
