・Yamaha’s original folk body shape offers excellent playability for players who prefer a compact body. The well-defined, full-bodied sound is ideal for responsive chord strumming and fingerpicking.
・Newly developed scalloped bracing delivers a warm, powerful sound characterized by deep bass and rich harmonics.
・The top is crafted from solid Sitka spruce treated with A.R.E., producing a mature sound reminiscent of a guitar that’s been played for many years
・Fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony
Key Features

◆ Yamaha’s traditional V-shaped headstock
The headstock, which inherits the shape of the original FG, features Yamaha’s iconic tuning fork logo. The truss rod cover is engraved with “1966,” the year the first FG guitar was released.
◆ Solid Sitka spruce top
The top is made of solid Sitka spruce treated with A.R.E.
Although brand-new, it delivers a rich tone reminiscent of a well-played instrument, along with a powerful resonance driven by warm mid-to-low frequencies.
Its well-balanced sound is ideal for chord strumming or rhythmic fingerstyle playing.
◆ Solid mahogany is used for the back and sides
Solid mahogany is used for the sides and back. This delivers the warm, rich midrange characteristic of mahogany.
◆ Cowbone Nut and Saddle
The nut and saddle are made of cow bone (Grade #5 only).
Cow bone is extremely hard, enabling more effective sound transmission from the strings to the neck and body.
However, since fitting and adjusting these components requires a high level of technical skill, each guitar is carefully finished one by one by skilled guitar craftsmen in Japan.
◆Proprietary Scalloped Bracing
Aiming to achieve an ideal, warm tone, we made repeated improvements by combining virtual prototyping using the latest acoustic analysis simulation technology with physical prototypes crafted from wood.
Compared to the scalloped bracing used in the FG/FS#800 series, we have optimized this design to match the characteristics of the wood itself and the specific models of the FG and FS series, thereby further expanding the low-frequency range.
◆A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) Treatment
Yamaha’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) process was applied to the top.
By precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, we have replicated—in a short period of time—the natural aging process that occurs in wood over many years after it is milled. This enhances sound transmission and vibration efficiency, promoting the extension of mid-to-low frequencies while increasing the attack of high frequencies and accelerating their decay.
The A.R.E. treatment produces a well-balanced, mature, and warm sound with few harsh overtones, creating a tone reminiscent of a guitar that has been played for many years.
◆ Equipped with the “Atmosfeel” Pickup System
The Atmosfeel 3-way pickup system features three distinct pickups that reliably capture each frequency range: an under-saddle piezo sensor for the mid-to-low range, a microphone built into the preamp for the low range, and a proprietary, ultra-thin contact sensor for the high range.
By incorporating a contact sensor made of thin, durable piezoelectric synthetic paper, the system reproduces the cohesive string vibrations emanating from the soundhole—which conventional pickups couldn’t fully capture—as well as the sustain of each individual string, the tactile sensation of fingering, and the airy, delicate tones produced by high-frequency harmonics.
It delivers the sensation of playing an acoustic guitar unamplified directly through the line output.
◆ Simple Operation
The “Atmosfeel” system allows you to blend the signals from each pickup with extremely simple controls, making it easy to shape your sound.
Use the master volume knob to fine-tune the tone, and the mic blend knob to add body resonance.
The Bass EQ controller allows you to adjust the peak EQ. Whether you’re a guitarist who needs to cut low frequencies for a band setup or a fingerstyle player looking for low-end support, adjusting the center frequency band to suit your specific needs ensures a confident tone-shaping experience.
