[SN C003390] USED MUSIC MAN / 80s Sabre Bass, Modified Sunburst [12]

[SN C003390] USED MUSIC MAN / 80s Sabre Bass, Modified Sunburst [12]

The 80s Music Man SABRE BASS has arrived.
Released shortly after the success of the StingRay, this model can be described as “another answer” that strongly retains the DNA of Leo Fender’s design era. It features the classic combination of an ash body and maple neck, equipped with two large humbuckers. Rather than simply prioritizing power, the series/parallel switch and tone circuit allow for a wide range of sound shaping—from robust lows to crisp mids.

The instrument we’ve received this time features a 1979 Saber body joined to a 1979 StingRay neck. As a result, the neck joint has been modified from a four-point to a three-point joint. The date stamped on the potentiometers—which appear to be original—is 1981; it is believed that parts replacement and modifications were carried out at “System Craft,” a bass specialty shop in Osaka.

The pickups are original, but the volume pot (1986), mini-switch, and jack have been replaced. The mini-switch functions as a pickup selector, allowing for series/parallel switching of the front pickup and series/parallel switching of the rear pickup.
The position of the string guide has been changed, and the strap pins and mute have been replaced. While it shows signs of wear appropriate for its age, there are no issues with its playability.
The nut and frets were replaced after the guitar was received, and the fingerboard was refinished as part of that process.
The rod nut (where the truss rod is adjusted) was stripped, so it was machined to metric specifications and repaired.
Currently, the neck is in good condition, and the truss rod is adjustable.
